A free international database complied by
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Excellent for the UK 1881 census, among other items.

A UK government database of the 1901 census for England and Wales.
Basic search returns are free and will return some valuable information.
There is, however, a small fee should you wish to view the names returned by in more detail.

Home page for the Public Records office in the UK.
The PRO doesn't hold records relating to births, marriages, deaths or wills,
but does hold all other official documents ( immigration, naturalisation, etc) for the UK.

( inculdeing the Family Records Center ), will provide you
with all you need to know about finding information on Births,
Marriages & Deaths, Census, Migration etc in the UK.

A free Rootsweb database compilation of UK births, deaths and marriages
between 1852 and 1901. All search returns will give the Registrar's reference for
the listed event should you wish to order a certificate from the
Family Research Center in London.

The are too many features on this superb site to list.
Enough to say its collection of databases, noticeboards and links is
an excellent starting point for those with Jewish connections.

by a group of volunteers to help with research relating to Switzerland.

For those who wish to put their late Victorian UK origins into some historical context, a visit to the Charles Booth Online Archive may help. This is a searchable resource hold archive material from the Booth collections of the London School of Economics and Political Science and the University of London. The LSE archives contain the original records from Booth's survey into life and labour in London, dating from 1886-1903.
